July Deficit: $181 Billion; Total for 2009: $1.3 Trillion ($1,300,000,000,000)

by Ed. on Aug.11, 2009, under Economic Crisis

The US annual budget deficit approached 3 times the highest annual deficit in the past. 2009 spending is now $1.3 TRILLION over 2009 revenues.

Wow.  We’re just a little over halfway through the year.

One estimate predicts a deficit of $2.2 trillion by the end of the year.

The budget for the entire federal government in 2003 was $2.2 trillion, now we are well on track to borrow that same amount just for this year’s spending.

In 2008, the projected deficit for this year was expected to be “a record” $480 billion.

H/T: Hot Air.

Are 50,000 Links to Your Web Site OK With You?

by Ed. on Aug.09, 2009, under SEO

If you use 800Cart and have, say, 150 products, then more than 50,000 links back to your site is not going to be a problem.  And it’s all automatic – it does not take days or weeks of strategizing and labor.  (we did all that for you years ago – you just need to hook in to our success).

Certainly, it’s going going to advance you like 1 link from 50,000 separate web sites, but results speak volumes.  Several new 800Cart customers took #1, #2, #3 in just a few days (like 8)… others have dominated with 5-6 links in the top 10 for months (try “gourmet mushroom“).  It’s all done ‘legally’ in the fashion that Google asks you to do it.

Watch the video for details. Click in the lower right of the video to load the HQ version then go to full screen if you want to see the screenshot details we illustrate.

‘SEO & Suggestive Sell’ (main menu) must be turned on in your 800Cart COntrol Panel to put this to work for you!  By the end of your 30 Day Free Trial at 800Cart, you can be dominating the search engines.

Is it as good as having 1 link from each of 50,000 different sites? Certainly not. But most webmasters would kill for 50,000 links from 4 sites as described in the video. But it’s included in any $9.90/month shopping cart from 800Cart. And it works well enough to get most merchants 3-7 links in the top 10 in most search engines.

That’s good enough for most merchants!

New Gmail Labs Feature Helps Verify Emails from PayPal

by Ed. on Aug.08, 2009, under online store shopping cart

Almost missed this one and it’s important that we pass it along to you.

And it’s another important reason to have a gmail account if your email server keeps returning emails to your ecommerce server/shopping cart for various reasons (like over limit/full, etc).

From the PayPal Blog: New Gmail Labs Feature Helps Verify Emails from PayPal.

800Cart already has a slightly different version of message validation that bypasses email entirely.  It’s in your 800Cart Control Panel main menu: look for ‘Quick Question’ which both bypasses email for delivery, and also certifies that you are the genuine owner of the account for passing critical (and sensitive) instructions to us.

Freak Factor = Success Factor?

by Ed. on Aug.07, 2009, under online store shopping cart

Just discovered this gentleman and his ideas are worth mentioning.

I first misread his motto ‘discovering uniqueness by flaunting weakness‘ and it went into my head as ‘discovering success by flaunting weakness’.

Both concepts are worth some serious reflection.

Strategy vs. Tactics for Us ADD-Types

by Ed. on Aug.07, 2009, under online store shopping cart

For some of us who have a bit of the ADD thing going on, but refuse to let it be an obstacle to success, Godin discusses a couple of principles we should keep uppermost in our minds.

We too often engage in tactics without considering the strategy.   Godin hits the nail squarely on the head.  Others agree.

Especially his remark about when the tactic fails, we discard the strategy.   See our post here about social networking activity.

UberGizmo: Touch Sensitive Keyboard

Pardon?  I thought all keyboards were pressure sensitive?  I press on the ‘a’ key and it types an ‘a’?

Maybe push harder, and it types an A?  Harder and it goes into italic?  Harder still and it goes bold and underlined?

And here.

by Ed. on Aug.06, 2009, under online store shopping cart

Apple already has good payment system traction with itunes, with a huge user base.

Are they about to leverage that traction into direct competition with Paypal? Apple vs. PayPal?.

If course, we already published some great advice about making pay downloads more profitable while reaching a much bigger market. Looks like soon we will have to add to our advice on using Paypal with some for Apple on primary payments systems?

Socially Retarded – I Know How We Feel About Social Networking!

by Ed. on Aug.06, 2009, under online store shopping cart

It’s easy to feel confused over Social Networking and all the options available. If we were to try to pay strict attention just to twitter and Facebook and a couple of others, then we would have time for little else.

It’s tempting to regard ourselves (and the seemingly wasted activity) like the Wee Guy does as (via) Socially retarded in the UK.   So it’s tempting to accept his sweet thoughts of limiting the social networking stuff to golf with the lads.

It turns out though, that merely being present in social networking can help your business. A lot.

But it doesn’t mean you have to waste time with it. Appearing everywhere are little tools and Widgets that allow you to interconnect all these resources so when you peep up on one, it automatically appears everywhere. I haven’t been to a twitter page in a month. But every day, I get several emails that more people are following me on Twitter because other resources are twittering for me automatically. And this is true for many other resources other than Twitter.   And some of this folks are going to click and come visit our humble abode here at 800Lab/800Cart.

It’s activity in the right general directions that nets you followers in all these places – but don’t make an effort about it – be smart about it and let the gadgets do the work for you.

Shopping Cart Primary Issue with SEO in Mind

by Ed. on Aug.06, 2009, under 800Cart, eCommerce, online store shopping cart

The author hits on may excellent topics and every point she raises is important!

Building an Ecommerce Site with SEO in Mind

One thing she does not mention is how an off-site shopping cart like 800Cart can legitimately generate 10’s of thousands of honest backlinks to the primary site.

And while her article was not intended to address security, an PCI off-site cart will address security issues that you cannot reasonably address (at least for reasonable cost) with a hosted or dedicated server ecommerce site.
